A Typical Day at White Deer Run of Allenwood
At White Deer Run of Allenwood, each patient’s schedule is tailored to their unique needs, based on where they fit in the Stages of Change model created by Prochaska and DiClementi.
Morning
Patients wake up in their cabins at 6 a.m. to hilltop views of the lush Pennsylvania countryside. After a nutritious breakfast and morning meditation to get focused for the day, patients begin a series of recovery lectures and therapy sessions.
Afternoon
Lunch is served in our dining hall at 11:30 a.m., followed by games, meditation, and individual, group and family therapy sessions. In the afternoon, patients participate in creative therapies, such as art therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), experiential therapy and psychodrama. We also offer specialty groups for co-occurring disorders, coping skills, life skills development, gender-specific groups, gay/lesbian/bisexual group and African-American group.
In addition to offering a wide variety of therapies, we provide more than 90 different lectures and structured activities to help patients understand the disease of addiction and develop new skills that will further their recovery. We also offer recreational therapy, which helps patients learn to have fun and socialize without using drugs or alcohol.
During their free time, patients can lift weights, journal, play basketball or volleyball, make pottery, or play games on our open field or in our indoor activity center.
Evening
Patients attend a 12-Step meeting three nights a week, participate in a structured activity three nights a week and watch a movie one night a week. The day winds down with a 10th Step personal inventory and a few minutes of quiet time before bed.
